आपकी इंडस्ट्री पर कोरोना का क्या असर हुआ, 2020-21 के लिए बिजनेस प्लान कितना बदला?
विजय शेखर: मुझे पूरा विश्वास है कि फाइनेंशियल टेक्नोलॉजी एवं डिजिटल इकोनॉमी कंपनियां कोविड-19 के बाद की दुनिया में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाएंगी। हम छोटे दुकानदार से लेकर किराना स्टोर मालिकों, एमएसएमई तक सबको डिजिटल तरीके से बिजनेस करने के काबिल बनाना चाहते हैं। यह बड़े पैमान पर अर्थव्यवस्था की वृद्धि के लिए जरूरी है। लोगों के बिजनेस का तरीका बदलने वाला है।
हमने अपने इन्क्रीमेंटल रेवेन्यू प्लान को एक तिमाही तक आगे बढ़ाया है। हमारी डिजिटल फर्स्ट स्ट्रेटेजी की बदौलत अगली तिमाही के बाद ग्रुप लेवल पर हमें चीजें सामान्य होती हुई स्पष्ट नजर आ रही हैं।
कोरोना का यह दौर बीत जाएगा तो वर्क कल्चर में किस तरह के बदलाव की उम्मीद है?
विजय शेखर:वैश्विक स्तर पर लोग लाइफस्टाइल में कई बदलाव अपनाएंगे। लंबे समय तक वर्क प्लेस पर सोशल डिस्टेंसिंग नाॅर्म्स होंगे। कंपनियां बिजनेस चलाने के लिए टेक्नोलॉजी, वीडियो कॉल्स पर अधिक निर्भर हो जाएंगी, क्योंकि काम के लिए यात्राएं करने में कटौती हो जाएगी। वर्क फ्राॅम होम किसी भी कंपनी का महत्वपूर्ण हिस्सा होगा पर ऑफिस बने रहेंगे। एक बार स्थिति सामान्य हो जाए तो मुझे भरोसा है कि लोग फिर अपने दफ्तरों में लौट आएंगे।
लॉकडाउन ने आपके प्रोफेशनल रूटीन पर क्या असर डाला है? आपने कौन से बदलाव लागू किए?
विजय शेखर:मौजूदा बदलावों से निपटने का सबसे अच्छा तरीका है रूटीन पर कड़ाई से चलना। मैं कोशिश करता हूं कि सुबह जल्दी उठने, कसरत, सही खान-पान और दिन में मीटिंग्स की प्लानिंग तक अपने शेड्यूल का कड़ाई से पालन करूं। मैंने खुद को वर्क फ्राॅम होम रूटीन में एडजस्ट किया है। मैं टीम को 50 करोड़ भारतीयों को अर्थव्यवस्था की मुख्यधारा में लाने के लक्ष्य की ओर प्रेरित करने में लगा हूं।
मैं वीडियो कॉल, ई-मेल के जरिए टीम से लगातार संपर्क में रहता हूं। हर हफ्ते टाॅउन हॉल मीटिंग्स करता हूं। लॉकडाउन के बावजूद पेटीएम में हमेशा की तरह हमारा काम चल रहा है।
आपकी कंपनी में मौजूदा हालात से निपटने के लिए क्या कदम उठाए गए?
विजय शेखर:एक कंपनी के रूप में हम उन प्रोडक्ट्स पर काम कर रहे हैं, जो लोगों को बिजनेस संचालित करने, डिजिटल लेन-देन करने और सफलतापूर्वक आगे बढ़ने में मददगार साबित हों। हर उद्योग के लिए जरूरी है कि इस कठिन समय में अपने वर्कफोर्स का ध्यान रखे ताकि जब चीजें सामान्य होने लगे तो वे जल्दी ही इकोनॉमी में योगदान देने की स्थिति में लौट आएं।
आपके व्यवसाय पर शॉर्ट टर्म और लॉग टर्म क्या असर होंगे?
विजय शेखर:शॉर्ट टर्म में तो ट्रेवल व टिकट आधारित इवेंट्स करने के बिजनेस पर नकारात्मक असर पड़ सकता है। हम कंटेन्ट स्ट्रेटेजी में भी बढ़ रहे हैं। गेमिंग कंपनी पेटीएम फर्स्ट गेम्स बहुत अच्छा काम कर रही है। समय आने पर मॉनिटाइजेशन भी होगा, क्योंकि ब्रांड फिर विज्ञापन करने लगेंगे।
सेहत का ध्यान और अर्थव्यवस्था को उबारना दो महत्वपूर्ण जरूरतें
विजय शेखर:देश को आगे बढ़ाने के लिए लोगों की सेहत का ध्यान रखना और अर्थव्यवस्था को उबारना दो महत्वपूर्ण कार्य हैं। मैन्युफैक्चरिंग सेक्टर, सर्विस इंडस्ट्री पर विशेष ध्यान देना होगा। फाइनेंशियल टेक्नोलॉजी सेक्टर अधिकांश सेवाओं को मजबूत बनाएगा।
उन्होंने कहा किलोकल के लिए वोकल जो प्रधानमंत्री ने नारा दिया है। वहनिश्चित रूप से एमएसएमई और स्टार्ट अप्स के लिए बड़ा बाजार बनाएगा, जिससे बड़ी संख्या में रोजगार का निर्माण होगा। छोटी कंपनियां सफल व फायदेमंद बनेंगी।

What effect did Corona have on your industry, how much did the business plan change for 2020-21?
Vijay Shekhar: I am confident that financial technology and digital economy companies will play an important role in the post-Kovid-19 world. We want to enable everyone from small shopkeepers to grocery store owners, MSMEs to do business in a digital way. This is necessary for the growth of the economy on a large scale. The way people do business is going to change.
We have extended our incremental revenue plan by a quarter. Thanks to our digital first strategy, we are seeing things becoming normal at the group level after the next quarter.
If this period of corona is to pass, then what kind of change is expected in the work culture?
Vijay Shekhar: People globally will adopt many changes in lifestyle. There will be social distancing norms at the work place for a long time. Companies will become more dependent on technology, video calls to run the business, as travel to work will get cut. Work frame home will be an important part of any company, but offices will remain. Once the situation returns to normal, I am confident that people will return to their offices.
How has the lockdown affected your professional routine? What changes did you implement?
Vijay Shekhar: The best way to deal with the current changes is to strictly follow the routine. I try to strictly follow my schedule till early in the morning, workout, proper eating and planning meetings in the day. I adjusted myself to the work from home routine. I am trying to motivate the team towards the goal of bringing 500 million Indians into the mainstream of the economy.
I keep in constant touch with the team via video call, e-mail. I have town hall meetings every week. Despite the lockdown, we continue to work in Paytm as usual.
What steps were taken to deal with the current situation in your company?
Vijay Shekhar: As a company, we are working on products that help people to conduct business, conduct digital transactions and grow successfully. It is important for every industry to take care of its workforce in these difficult times so that when things start to return to normal, they will soon return to contribute to the economy.
What will be the short-term and log-term effects on your business?
Vijay Shekhar: In the short term, doing travel and ticket based events can have a negative impact on the business. We are also growing in content strategy. Gaming company Paytm First Games is doing a great job. Monetization will also happen when the time comes, as brands will start advertising again.
Focus on health and revitalizing economy are two important needs
Vijay Shekhar: To take the country forward, taking care of the health of the people and reviving the economy are two important tasks. Special attention will be paid to manufacturing sector, service industry. The financial technology sector will strengthen most services.
He said the vocals for Kilocal which the Prime Minister has given slogan. It will certainly create a huge market for MSMEs and start ups, creating a large number of jobs. Small companies will become successful and profitable.
